This was the view from my bedroom window yesterday morning. Earlier, at about 6 a.m., I had had the phone call from a colleague saying that a 'snow day' had officially been declared and school would not be opening. I felt slightly guilty getting back into bed with a cup of tea while my husband set off on foot down our hill to where he had left the car the night before - and then on to work.
The sun never really appeared and it was cold all day with constant flurries of snow. Hatty and George gamefully took the sledge out but they came back after about an hour soggy and frozen.
Today we were off again, only this time the sun was shining and it was nice to be out. So I took my camera up on the common and round the village to capture the sparkling whiteness of it all.
The cold weather turns my thoughts to sweater knitting, of course; that, and the fact that I have (crazily) joined a group on Ravelry called 'InSweMoDo2010', which translates as 'International Knit a Sweater-a-Month 2010'. The challenge is to knit twelve adult sized sweaters this year (cardigans, sleeveless, cropped, it doesn't matter). I have become slightly obsessed with cardigans and this seemed like a good excuse to knit some of the ones that I really fancy (leaving room for any new ones that catch my eye as the year progresses). I'm not a great one for summer knitting, so I'm thinking cosy, cables, arans, tweed. I've posted my draft list of potential projects on the group page. I don't usually go for super chunky wool, either, but my attention was drawn to this Gedifra gilet which looks perfect for wrapping around you indoors for a bit of extra cosiness or outdoors over another sweater. So I might add this to my 'to do' list.(The fact that it is knit in thick wool on big needles in one piece, is cropped and sleeveless, has absolutely nothing to do with my attraction to this project...)
